five prepared transducer microphones, sound mixer and four speakers. Part of Solo exhibition (Un) Measurements at Meet Factory, Prage, Czech Republic 2016
A dead tree was carved removing the parts where fungi and larvae thrived. Bac-teria still inhabits this place, they are the architects of an ongoing typography. This piece creates different axis or rotation cycles. There are 5 reading points built upon prepared microphones – they act as needles reading the surface of the tree within specific orbits. Since the branch is irregular, a single rotation contains six different reading cycles. Through the course of time this “seg-ments” or “measurements” align together in one specific moment between each 12 rotations. A polyrhythmic interplay between order and chaos in a constant
transient orbit.
Consider a mechanic rotation, like the motor of a car : it has a fixed cycle but no rotation is exactly equal to its previous, there is a direction but total repetition is impossible, an external signal contaminates slowly but always. Such is the nature of all matter, a cyclic being but never a static one.
